SIT AND STAY

Welcome to my first article.  At Sit and Stay, our motto is dog training should be fun. "Well" you ask,  "if it's fun, can it still be effective?" 

               Positive Training is NOT Permissive Training.

      Learning as a game, is learning to learn.....let's get the food out of the bowl and in to your training.

      Training does not take "whispering" abilities or a special gift - everybody, who loves their dog, can do it.

       Put treats around the house in Tupperware containers and use every spare moment to "play" ...yes, I said play with your dog.

       Because your dog thinks you're playing with him or her, it's all fun for him, but what he doesn't know is that this play is training. 

       For example: I wanted my dogs to come to me and lay down when I whistled 2 times. So, I took out my treats and then out of the blue I whistled - then when they came and layed down, I clicked and gave them a tasty treat.

      After a short time I took that exercise "on the road" (dog park/off leash situations)...and after a few weeks it worked beautifully.  My dogs have a great recall and an automatic down as a bonus!

     That's one of my "trade secrets" for getting a great reliable recall.
